Music and literature lovers looking for a unique event that pairs the prose and music of Regency England need look no further than Lakewood Cultural Center for a beautiful performance of ‘The Jane Austen Playlist: Love and Music of Regency England.’
The evening’s performance—including drama, piano, voice, strings, flute, and period costumes—will feature songs from the personal collection of the internationally recognized author Jane Austen, who remains a leading female voice in literature and history.
Created by Denver-based pianist and Colorado Christian University faculty Laura Klein, the performance will feature several local performers and CCU faculty, including violinist Chris Luther, cellist Anna Leavitt, pianist Aaron Stampfl, flautist Rachel Perez, and harpist Barbara Lepke-Simms; and Philadelphia-based actress Kathy Becker, soprano Megan Poff, and tenor Jay Poff. The performance will take audience members on a delightful journey to early 19th-century
England.
Klein founded ‘The Jane Austen Playlist’ in 2019 to pay tribute to the historical music of the Austen family. Composed of over 600 songs and various instrumental pieces, ‘The Jane Austen Playlist’ explores a compilation of handwritten and printed manuscripts collected by the women of the Austen family, many by Jane Austen herself. A Creative in Residence of Jane Austen’s House, Klein’s current research on the Austen family music collection is quickly gaining global recognition for its contribution to literature, music, women’s studies, and historical performance practices.
Best for ages 10 and up.
