Zz LCC Presents - 2023 - Blind Visionaries
Featuring jazz music by The Daniel Kelly trio, paired with photographic "light-painting" created by blind and visually impaired members of the Seeing With Photography Collective, this multi-media collaboration explores what it means to truly see.
Tickets start at $25.
See and hear the world in a new way through the lens of blind photographers and live music inspired by their stunning and thought-provoking images projected on a video screen throughout the performance. Hear recorded interviews from the photographers reflecting on their personal experiences with blindness and David Kelly's riveting original music composed in response to these compelling stories. Audience members will create a new photo with members of the Collective that will be projected on screen during the concert.
The Blind Visionaries concert is complemented by these LCC gallery exhibitions:
Seeing Requires Not Sight:
February 10-April 3 in the North Gallery
Seeing with Photography Collective:
April 7-21 in the Lobby.
"These images are so powerful, and so provocative, and have so much energy emitting from them. It's a joy to score music to them." - David Kelly, composer, pianist, and Blind Visionaries creator.
Learn how to create these images yourself! You can register for a workshop here on the light-painting photography process. Bring your digital camera, or use a camera that we will provide. The workshop is on Friday, April 21 from 1 to 4 pm at the Lakewood Cultural Center. You can also search for the activity code 17A1010 on Lakewood.org's site.
